I love fish. I always have. As in- the ones you keep in a tank. Sure, some people think fish are boring. But they're beautiful! I really want some.

I'm 13. I have two cats. I really want a fish. Not a goldfish. Maybe some white cloud minnows? I really have no idea, and I need some help.
I can purchase a 3 gallon tank. One THREE gallon tank. Thank you fish people, I can purchase a 3 gallon tank, not anything bigger, sorry.

A few questions:
1. What fish should I get?
2. More than one?
3. How do I keep my cats away?
4. How do I clean a fish tank? A filter?
5. Any other tips for a beginning fish caretaker?

I'd really enjoy having my fish live a long, healthy life. :) Thank you so much for your help!
Oh, and just for laughs:
I'm thinking of naming the fish...

Miss Barky Bon Cadsbury Cuddlesworth Blub Blub Bichon Frise Bobbith Fredricka Butters Von Fluffypants VI.
AKA:
Susan.

1.the only thing that can fit in a fish tank that size is the betta fish. don't believe the"rule" 1in per 1 gal

2. you ban only keep one fish it a tank that size
3.my can and fish coexist so i dont know lol
4.20% present water every week. yes you need a filter with every fish and you need a heater
5. keep the water between 80-85F

sorry about spelling

hope i helped

Betta's are beautiful. For a 3 gallon fish tank you could probably get 2 fish, but male Betta's will eat each other. To clean a tank: set a jar of water out for 24 hours- then scoop the fish out of the tank and into the jar of water- then do you're tank cleaning. It's fairly simple. As far as the cats- if theirs a lid to the tank- they'll most likely stay out- if not- it'll mostly depend on the personality of the cats. Some cats are mean others are curious, and others just don't care. Good Luck!

1. A male betta would be an interesting fish to have, but DO NOT put it with any other fish.
2. A three gallon tank is really too small to house more than one fish
3. Get a tank with a tight lid
4. Once a week, take out 10-25% of the water and wipe the side and put new water in with conditioner. Replace filter cartridge about every four weeks
5. Keep a heater in the tank with lots of other plants

1) There's not really many fish you can get for a 3 gallon tank. One male or one female betta should do ok. You could try some white clouds, as thewy are pretty hardy, but three gallons is pushing it.
2) Betta? No. White clouds? Usually I would say get at least four, as they need to be kept in groups, but I don't think a tank this small could even support that many. With a bigger tank you could just get good filtration, but you wouldn't usually cycle a tank this small, so that would be pointless.
3) Keep a tight-fitting lid on the tank. Make sure the cats can't get in, but there still needs to be holes or something in the lid so that fresh air can reach the water's surface.
4) That's complicated. Read up on 'the nitrogen cycle' and 'cycling a fish tank'. That's how you would support fish in a larger tank, along with a gravel vacuum that you use to siphon out 20% of the tank's water each week. With a tank that holds less than 5 gallons, you need to carry out 100% water changes at least once a week. A filter would be good for water movement and airation, but it won't do much in the way of keeping the water clean.
5) Many. I won't list them all. I would suggest you get a bigger tank, but you said you won't already. Your best bet would be one betta.

Good luck :)

IOK well i lvoe my betta (bout 5$) and there are fish it can be with it i have a cat and i put a hand mirror over my little tank (bout 20$) so not only does it keep the cat out it reflects the heat inside the water i named my fish Mr. bubbles or my other (he died) beta 003 bubbles james bubbles

A Betta would be happy in that tank, they are very easy to care for and extremely hardy.

1. A Betta ( male, they are prettier )
2. Only one, Bettas are very territorial and the tank is enough for one Betta
3. Get a tank with a hood, because bettas like to jump and cats like to fish.
4.Cleaning that small a tank consists of scrubbing the algae and doing a 100 % water change every 2 weeks.
5.Things you are going to need:
A net
Tetra Aqua safe
Bettamin Granules
Gravel, about 2-3 pounds of it
A heater set at 75-80
Not necessarily but a filter for a 2 gallon tank, it has to be very gentle because Bettas hate water flow.
Fin rot and Ich medication, just in case, it's better to be safe than sorry.
3+ fake plants, they like to rest on the leaves.
2+ ornaments, they love swimming in and out of castles and huts.

If you get all of that stuff you will have a very healthy, happy Betta fish.

Good luck!!!~~~~

2. Get about 2-4 fish
3. Put a sliding fence thingy that you use for toddlers in front of the door that the run you will put it in.
4. I'm not sure but I think you put the fish in another tank and clean the other one. A holding tank.

I have had fish but not in a tank. In a pond. I used mostly common sense for 3 :D
