That N8 thread is so overloaded its hard to really keep track of the good and bad...

what are the pros of the N8, what are the Cons of the N8...

from what i have read....

PROS:
nice screen
great camera
metal housing
solid build
good call quality

CONS
crummy browser (corrected by using firefox or opera?)
keyboard layout
delay in opening menus? (read that in a recent post but not sure if that is common or just an individual having issues on their particular device)

what else? if you can, copy and paste my list and add to it so it stays complete.

MODS: after a few folks chime in, maybe that list can be added to the first post on the N8 thread so its all compiled in one place?

also, what is the best place to buy an N8 that will warranty it if defective?

The browser and keyboard issues should be rectified (subject to the new versions being any good :p ) in the famous PR2.0 update due within the next 2-3 months. Another downside often quoted is the more menu driven UI than e.g. Android, but that is to some extent a matter of what you are used to. And that too may change a fair bit with the PR3.0 expected later this year.

pro is also the hdmi and usb on the go.
the browser is fine for me, and the menu's opens fast the second time, but almost all mine stuff that i use are on 1 of the 3 home screens, u can put there 24 items / screen (first screen only 20 items) so u can put 68 favorite apps on the home screens.

mine cons is the Wlan that isn't as good as mine N97 and i can rearly use two programms to use the wlan at the same time :(.

(IMO)

Audio quality is quite good (Music Player otherwise isn't the greatest).

Missing DLNA/Home Media for some reason.

No easy and officially supported way of adding languages and input methods without losing other languages.

Screen is nice, but much lower resolution than, say, iP4 and Galaxy S, if that's important to you (not a big issue for me).

Not a lot of software available for it (not a huge issue for me, but would like a couple of things that I had on my N95).

Overall, I quite like the handset. No regrets about buying it.

Screen resolution is a moot point. You can only see the pixels when ur holding it few inches away. Normal viewing distance, not noticable. All the other manufactures are playing the numbers game, and the consumers are paying a higher price for it.

The N8 is the type of phone you actually need to use for a week or two, so that you can appreciate it. All in all there are no big issues with the phone you should be worried about, it is all personal preference at this point. I came from an iphone 4 (i had an e71 for two years prior to the iphone and I am very familiar with Symbian) and never looked back.

What I am trying to say is: give it a go.

I think that there are definite advantages in certain situations. For example, if I were caught out in the field somewhere and wanted to watch a Netflix movie, or if I wanted to catch up on the Youtube subscriptions of friends, I would pick the iPhone's Retina Display over the display of the N8.

Sure, it's an unfair numbers game sometimes, and people quote the pixels without consideration to how much power is needed to push them.

I continue to be a fan of the very independently minded Nokia, and I have two Symbian devices that are in reserve, but I admit that I use an iPhone 4 as my everyday device and do not regret it at all. To do everything with an iPhone that you could do with an N8 out of the box, however, requires a user who is not afraid to get into the guts of it and jailbreak. You don't need to jailbreak a Nokia to be fully independent.

:-)

LOL.... I am also a user of the iPhone 4 who can't completely take his gaze off of what Nokia is doing with Symbian and Maemo/Maego, and who regrets the sudden Windows 7 alliance. I don't think that's going to help Nokia, long term.

I still have an E5 and an E71 around here somewhere. It's hard to understand how the people who were attracted to this kind of ultimate independence are going to be people who will be roped into Windows 7 Mobile.

Pros and cons are too subjective especially with regards to browser, keyboard layout (I love T9).

Things like great camera, good screen in daylight are much more quantifiable.... if you're trying to make a decision, first you need to identify what is important to you and what doesn't have to be great. IE: I don't care that much the browser. I really don't do much heavy browsing on phone so I don't have a lot of expectation.
