A History of Violence

I saw this a few hours ago and as the titles rolled the first thought I had was "...is that it?". I thought this film had very little substance to it and plenty of uneccessary scenes, including the pointless 69 session.

The only real redeeming quality of the film was William Hurt as Richie who made a great brother/villian.

Definitely would not reccomend this film, although all of the critics seem to be praising it.

Loved the action in this film but like yourself thought it missed something. Came out of the film thinking maybe a middle portion had been cut out.

I felt like that too! I enjoyed it, but was wondering what happened to his son after the incident in the garden? Guess we'll never know!

I did like the ending. It wasn't one of those"...and they all lived happilly ever after!" endings.

I too felt that something was missing. But isn't that like a David Cronenburg film?

Yeah, wasn't William Hurt brill, he played it so OTT. Thought they could have made more of the Ed Harris and Co. bullying of Tom Stall and his family.
Its not like any Cronenberg film that I have ever seen and it did lack something.
Its one of those movies that you also have to make your mind up about, will Tom Stall's family ever forgive him properly, will he ever lose his head again. Who knows what goes on in David Cronenberg's mind and I would never like to find out........

A real dissapointment; saw the film a few days ago and felt that even with the yawn-worthy 'hidden' subtexts, etc it still lacked anything of real value :(

Certainly the most lacklusture Cronenberg film I have experienced!

I was thinking of 'Existenz' where it seemed to end without answering the many questions it threw up.
If you saw me leaving the cinema after that film you would have seen a quesion mark over my head!

Maybe that's the point: Sometimes there's no answers, life just goes on.

I'm in agreement with alot of people here, I came out thinking

"is that it?"

and after seeing the trailer which promised so much, I was even more confused when

MAJOR SPOILER....
Ed Harris (the head honcho) was killed so early on, I was left thinking where can they go with this now?!?!

I was disappointed too, considering the rave reviews, .......film of the year etc.

the trailer looked sooooooooo good.

I just thoguht there would be more of a story.

I just watched this film on DVD.

It was good, but the ending was like, What? Did they just give up?

It was watchable but just plodded along, and I was expecting a twist at the end, but was disappointed.

What? No no no.
It's by David Cronenberg, my favourite director. It's a great film . I like it!!!!
I WOULD definitely recommend it.

I am a bit disappointed that he's not writing his own stuff these days though.

I loved the whole film except for William Hurt, who I thought was miscast and over the top!
