A History Of Horror With Mark Gatiss

I suggested (on the other thread) that there should have been a forth episode, he mentions some of my all time favourite films being made post 70's, it would have been nice to hear him wax lyrical about them.
 
'Blood on Satan's Claw' was definitely on British tv most Saturday nights on ITV!

If you had seen and like 'Witchfinder General', you'll probably enjoy 'BOSC' as well!
 
Weakest episode imo, but he had little to work with, as I agree with him that good films with a disturbing theme like TCM have led to the drivel currently filling cinemas that are all about gore and not horror.

Good to see him give The Omen its place though.
 
I Suspect that's due to time/licensing constraints,either that or they were dipping their toe in to gauge reaction and will do more in the future,as it was said on Points of View the other week that more is something they would definitely consider

That was a really creepy film and has always stayed in my mind.......when the runes flew away in the train....Fab 50's film.....
 
I thought it was a brilliant show but agree with you why miss the all time classic The Devil Rides Out and Theatre of Blood and id add to that the 60s hammer horror Quatermass and The Pitt and the Haunted House of Horrors but its his personal taste i guess !
 
ReminRAB me of an episode of Jim'll Fix It (must have been early/mid 80's) Peter Cushing had written in and asked for a rose to created and named after his late wife.

Of course Jim fixed it for Mr. Cushing.

At the time I was a snotty know it all teen but the segment on the show with Mr. Cushing naming the rose had me sobbing my eyes out.

What an absolute gentleman.
 
Loved it! This is what BBC4 does best: a real enthusiast sharing his/her passion with the viewers.

I remember my parents had that exact same horror book (can anyone remember what it was called btw?) and I, too, used to have certain pages that I skipped over because the pictures were just too scary!
 
I don't know Scream and I Know What you did last summer,whilst rehashing the Slasher Genre,brought something new to the party,Final Destination and Saw on the other hand are just gorefests and whilst are OK for a watch aren't anything brilliant imo
 
I thought it was great. One of the Hammer producers interviewed was 96! I looked him up and it said he died earlier this month. They just interviewed him in time.
 
Tetsuo: Ironman is the ONLY film I have ever switched off because I just couldn't take it any more.
Of the modern horrors, maybe Saw, and Saw alone, none of the sequels, should have been included in the programme.
As mentioned earlier, maybe Dog Soldiers, Deathwatch and 28 Days Later. Having never seen the original, the US version of The Ring was pretty scary. Especially as I watched it alone at midnight, and due to a flaky modem on our PC at around 2:00am the blooming phone rang. I had to be peeled off the ceiling.
