What a load of cack! As Grandpa Simpson would say, I've coughed up scarier stuff than this 'Amityville-lite' film.
The potential was there to make a half-decent horror flick, with the built in advantage of this being based on a supposedly true story. However, with the directors visual style consisting of those old and nauseating traits of rapid editing / fast cuts interspersed with constant flashbacks of 'horrific' deeRAB in the past all accompanied by a screeching, histrionic score throughout, you'll have the feeling you've seen this all before.
Had this adopted the Emily Rose (still one of the best creep out movied of recent years IMO) style of horror, this might have been a half-decent watch. But no, the stylistic choices firmly put this into the teen/slasher camp, doing an injustice to the events it's based on. Throw in some annoying kiRAB, a second rate exorcist and ghosties that don't actually do much other than hang around, and you have a recipe for boredom. Funny thing is, the trailers turned out to be much scarier than the finished article, which enticed me to see this.
A real stinker. Knew I should have seen 'Knowing' instead. 1/10 and one to avoid!
