A Guide to Rightstuf's Bargain Bin Sale

So Rightstuf's current big sale is clearance on its bargain bin, which usually features significant discounts. There's often a good reason for that--many titles there are rather obscure or rare, or have since been gathered into newer collections. Some are from Geneon or ADV and have fallen out of print. It's also home to a horde of single volume DVD's, which are incomplete for quite a few series.

The thing is, it's annoying to browse through a page at a time. That said I did so in search of possible good deals, and there are a few, which I've listed below for everyone's benefit. Do note the following:

While this is not quite exhaustive, it does focus on the best and most cost effective deals (a lot of series are gettable for under $30) and filters out nearly every series that didn't have all the volumes available. In fact, Gatchaman is the only incomplete series on the list, and that's because it's so amazingly cheap.I did not check to make sure everything is in stock. That would have taken forever, and what's more supply is limited and they will likely run out of a few things. So, if you notice something that you want, jump on the deal while you can.If a volume is out of stock, try back later--I have seen titles "sell out" and then come back in stock on rightstuf's website. For single collections with the original artbox and some of the original boxed sets, the sale can be a good way to save some money. That said, it is not good for saving shelf space. I have tried to take note of the existence of thinpak collections to the best of my ability.___________________________________

I got the whole of Fushigi Yugi last time I shopped there, but I got all 8 singles instead of the two box sets. 64 for all singles, way more for one box. The positive side to losing all that shelf space is that the packages have some cool art on them. ^^d

I'll have to think about that Tenchi Ryo-Okhi box...

Oh, man, Gantz is SO much cheaper now than it was when I bought it.

I usually don't care about that-- for example, Berserk is like $100 cheaper now than when I bought it as single discs-- but that's because stuff like Berserk and Bebop was worth it even at the higher price.

Whereas I really only bought Gantz for abridged series footage; I consider the anime a renter, it's really the manga that I'm a fan of.

'Course, for thirty bucks it's not a bad deal. I think I paid maybe twice that, which would've been way too much if I hadn't needed a copy around for footage.

Yeah, after watching and loving all of Gantz Abridged having never seen or read any of Gantz, I might as well get the complete series for barely more than a buck an episode while I can.

I plan to buy Gantz now, thank you very much, not sure what else to get, but Gantz is very tempting. What, I liked the Abridged version, and I'm now checking out the Anime for it, I wanna see the filler hell.

There's only one thing I would add in response to the Bargain Bin. You constantly have to check it on a week to week basis.

Why? Just because a series is incomplete as singles does not mean they wont eventually be getting the missing volumes. For the longest time they only had Haibane Renmei volumes 1 and 2 in the Bargain Bin, but only recently have they actually gotten the remaining two volumes to complete the series.

So if you are looking in the bin for a series you want and only find incomplete singles, just keep checking back every once in a while because TRSI actively tries to find the missing volumes to add to the bin.

Every Thursday they update the weekly sales specials, but there isn't a set time that I know of. As far as the Bargain Bin goes, they might update it on Tuesdays, I really don't know, items going into or coming out of the Bargain Bin always seem random. There is a link on the TRSI home page(new/changed items) that indicates if specific titles prices have changed, and on what date. But the list is huge because they are constantly updating it.
