im 5'7-8 and weigh about 150-160
im looking to get a motorcycle to go to and from class. i currently ride a 150cc moped but to drive it in dc(where i live) you need to register it, insure it, ect. when going into the state of MD(where i go to school) its legal to ride a moped without registration(i lived in md when i bought the moped).

i figure it makes more sense for me to just buy a real bike than to insure a moped(since insurance either doesnt cover or doesnt differentiate a motorcycle from a moped). so that leads me to my question. since ivebeen driving a 150cc moped for over a year should i go ahead and skip 250 and go straight to 500cc? the lady at work said i should start off at 150 but i dont want to buy a bike that

A) my car is faster than(even though a 500 is only slightly fast) 0-60 should be less than 5.5 seconds. i would be royally pissed if a pulled up next to a car and raced and lost.

B)i would grow out of it in less trhan a year. even though cycles are cheap i dont want to just waste money.

so ive been seeing people advertise all the way up to 650cc as a beginner bike. but for my skill level should i just go with the 250 or shoot for a 500.

im mechanically adept so learning the shifting wont take more than 5 minutes and i work on cars so upkeep shouldnt really be a problem for me.
