a good ideia to improve gnutella-net !

why don't we use md5 checksums to identify the files that are equal (the same) instead of using the name of the file.

the client program could calculate the checksums a put it on a index table (file name -> md5 checksum) and when it sends a query the checksum its in the first characters of the file name.

this way we have a better hit-rate for file and an incresed probability of resuming downloads. all this without modifying the gnutella network servers and packages.

There is already a Gnutella Program that uses CRC checksums.

See www.xolox.nl

after starting up and sharing some files, a templist.txt will apear on the Harddisk in your xolox directory. Here you can see the CRC's of your shared files. These CRC codes are already passed along the gnutella network.

Check out the latest version of Gnotella. It uses the file name and file size. If you want to resume a file just highlight the file name and right-click on "Find More Hosts" which will add more servers offering the same file to your connect queue.

Works great.

XoloX resumes every file that you want to download automaticly (without any mouseclicks). No more 'connection failed/host failed' !!!!
It doesn't resume the file from just one computer, but from all the computers it can find. It's the first parallel multidownload Gnutella server !!!!!

Try it..
