Sorry if Im repeating a lot of stuff here guys but its really just a list of the foreign films I have in my own collection and which I think are excellent...
Jean de Florette and Manon Des Sources (France) the ultimate story of greed and jealousy in any language.
Check out some of the French new wave cinema classics I especially like the Francois Truffaut films like Jules et Jim and Les Quatres Cents Coups
La Dolce Vita ...... (Italy) The evolution of the paparazzi...sixties decadence in Rome
City of God (Brazil)......... by the way anyone seen the tv follow up called City of Men? supposed to be good too
Fitzcarraldo ......... a werner Herzog film about an eccentric who wants to build an opera house in the Amazon Jungle incredible!
Y Tu Mama Tambien ....... fantastic coming of age film from Mexico starring Gael Garcia Bernal
Seven Samurai ........ Kurosawa classic
Cinema Paradiso ...... I cry every time at this one and Im a guy!
Europa Europa........ a true WW2 holocaust story every bit as good as Schindlers List
Im looking forward to getting The Motorcycle Diaries (the story of the adventures of the young Che Guevara) when it comes out in February too.
World Cinema can seem intimidating at first but don't be deterred, like Peckhamlad says its a immensely rewarding experience and I find foreign films capture human emotions far better than most hollywood films do, whether thats because you are reading the subtitles and thinking about what theyre saying im not sure.
Anyway enjoy
