A good applied mathematics book?

hello I am looking for suggestions of a good book on applied mathematics. I intend to supplement my university degree (engineering) with some extra maths. I've currently found one - Mathematical methods for physics and engineering by K. F. Riley and others. It's good because it has a solution guide with it. I just read some vector calculus and didn't learn much. I feel that it sometimes doesn't explain too much and sometimes explains things which are irrelevant (at least to me). Also I've only read 2 chapters so can't really judge. Do you have any recommendations for a good maths book?
