I need some form of personal assistant digital thing. My friend's blackberry has stuff like a GPS and I want one. I figured I'd go with the iTouch but I hear you have to have itunes and it's just annoying and very appley in general... so I was wondering if there was similar technology. No, I don't "just want" a GPS or I'd google one.
Great, the G1 looks perfect for my needs.

You can get a BlackBerry for AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon, so it won't limit your choice of wireless provider. Also, even if you get one of the older models that doesn't have GPS, you can install Google Maps and it uses the cell transmitter info to work out where you are to within a couple of hundred meters, which is generally good enough to get the right bit of map showing. You can also install Facebook for BlackBerry, and it'll sync your BlackBerry contact list with Facebook. There's a Google contacts and calendar sync too.

Another option is an Android phone; that's Google's OS based on Linux, with full Google Maps support and syncing to your Gmail and Google Calendars account. T-Mobile has 3 Android phones: the G1, the MyTouch, and the Motorola CLIQ.

Right now, BlackBerry is the more mature platform, but it has some shortcomings in terms of user interface, application space, and wifi support.

Well, Blackberry's are very good phones, but you have to have them under verizon, and their plans are kind-of weird. Cricket just came out with the motorola evoke, You may want to look into that. There are plenty of nice phones with GPS capability, just look around on some phone-websites and you are bound to find one that fits your taste.

The Ipod touch is based for music, so I wouldnt go with that. The best thing you will probably find is a phone with GPS service and a good phone provider. That or, go the other route and just buy a GPS.

I personally recommend the iPod Touch or the iPhone.
iTunes is very very easy to use, and there are many applications you can download for it. You can use it as an mp3, video/photo viewer, as an internet browser and a million other things.I've had my iPod Touch for a year, and the apps have helped me a lot in school and to keep organized. It can do a lot of things, is very durable and is relatively unexpensive.
