A fish to live with my crayfish? plz help?

Well crayfish don't actually eat waste so you shouldn't choose based on that alone. In the end, no fish is safe to keep with a crayfish unless you have a larger tank as he can and will eat them. So on that basis I say pick up some guppies as a tank mate. Guppies breed fast and easy so if he eats some they get replaced on a regular basis.

For lighting I believe that they dislike light, though I could be wrong. Just make sure he has plenty of places to hide and he'll be fine either way.

Also be careful with the lid to the tank. Crayfish are notorious for escaping tanks with gaps or loose lids!
 
I just got a crayfish in a month cycled 10 gallon tank. He seems to be doing awesome. I have him in pretty cold 70* water. I have heard it would be nice to put another fish in with him. What kind of fish could live in cold water that would create alot of waste for my little crayfish? Thanks!!!
And also... Do crayfish like an aquarium light?
 
Crayfish aren't really compatible with any fish. Crayfish will try to eat any fish you put in with it. I once witnessed a tiny half inch crayfish literally ride the tail of a big goldfish in an attempt to get a meal. In a large tank of at least 75 gallons there would be a chance of keeping fish with it because the fish would have room to stay away from it. In a ten gallon the fish have no choice but to be in the proximity of the crayfish. So to conclude I wouldn't try it in a tank that small. I wouldn't try it at all if you value the fish. As for the light they prefer a lot of shadows. Good luck.
 
Really depends on the type and size of the cray. Allot of them are very aggressive and very big. Some dwarf species are kind of shy (like the mexican dwarf orange cray). If your gonna try it make sure that the fish is fast, bigger then your cray, and prefers the upper layer of your tank. Those are the 3 things that will keep him from being eaten. By the way, crays don't eat waste so....don't base the choice on that, you will just end up with a filthy tank.

PS. to those out there that blanketly say that it wont work I have kept crays and fish together a number of times with no deaths using those 3 rules. It helps if you have the right type of cray though. Like I said dwarf oranges don't usually go after fish, or plants, and stay small (1-2 in).
