A few Questions

Could you help me to answer these questions.

1.I have recently been told by a doctor that I have suffered no hearing loss after frequent noise exposure. I want to know if it is only the patient who can tell if their hearing has lessened?

2. Also, I swallowed some shampoo and got deodrant in my eye recently. Can these cause damage. I have had a blocked throat since swallowing shampoo.

3. Daily noise exposure?
If you listen to music at 90 decibels at 1am in the morning, then go to sleep and listen to music when you wake up at 9am, will this still be part of the 24 hour exposure or do our ears recover over night?

Thanks in advance.

1. A good audiologist can tell if you have hearing loss. I suspect you more likely have attention deficit disorder, and thus are mis-hearing things because you aren't paying proper attention...and you think that it is hearing loss and it isn't. That could explain why you would do something like swallow shampoo or get deodorant in your eye..you simply are not paying attention.

2. I think you fret and worry over stuff that is no big deal.

3. I would say that it would count for a 24 hour exposure...after all, 24 hours is 24 hours...awake or asleep, it's 24 hours.

I really think you should see a good audiologist, and a good psychiatrist, too.

I'm no doctor, and I'm no psychiatrist, but I suspect you are enjoying getting attention by posting things here instead of dealing with the causes of your problems. Just my opinion.

To that end, I am not replying to you anymore.

Good luck.

I don't have add. I'm confident of that. I do though probably suffer from being a bit paranoid and a slight hypochondriac. I have already booked an appointment with an audiologist and the reason for enjoying attention on here is because I saw a doctor who said there was nothing wrong which doesn't add up with the pain in my ears I have suffered. To be honest, I doubt there is anything wrong with my hearing. But after going to a gig and then listening to music for 5-6 hours in a row the next day, I think it is natural to be concerned. This has also coincided with inexplainable tooth decay (I brush frequently) which is enough to make anyone paranoid. I will post the result of my appointment with the EET doctor on this thread which will most likely confirm that I was just being a bit paranoid about my health. All of this has disrupted my sleep, which hasn't helped for stress and concentration levels either.

Thanks for your advice. I suspected I already knew the answers to questions 1 and 3 and you have confirmed that I did.

A final daft question.

My speakers measure 90 decibels when I play music through them but the decibel reading is only 70 from where I am sitting. Which should I use as a benchmark for how much noise I am exposing myself too? And should I add a few decibels on for the subwoofer, which i generally five decibels louder then the speakers?

Actually that isn't a daft question.

You can get a decibel-meter, and bring it with you to where you are sitting, and THAT is the reading you should use.

If it measures, as you say, 90 at the source...but you are not AT the source, then yes, the decibel reading is going to be lower at the point at which you are sitting.

The doctors said my ears and throat are fine. I'm going for an eye test just for precaution but my concentration levels are fine now and I believe it was just excessive stress.
