A few questions about switching to Cricket

Currently I have the Nokia E61 with AT&T and absolutely love it. It is one amazing phone. I wish I could use it on a CDMA network. However, I'm looking to cancel my service with ATT because after the $150 phone bills each month for unlimited internet, txt, and 1400 minutes, I can't really handle that, particularly when I'm seeing Cricket is offering the same deals (albeit reduced coverage) for $100 less a month! So now I'm on the search for a new phone and service provider.

I have some questions pertaining to the Cricket service and phones available.

1) Does the mobile web allow you to access the entire web? I use my phone's internet on a daily basis for email, web surfing, research, and such when I have down time. I need to know if Cricket's mobile web has the same thing. I'm on MEdia Net with ATT.

2) I'm looking for a phone that has Wifi, mobile internet, text messaging, (a camera would be nice, but not mandatory), and something I could use to store documents/powerpoints and take them elsewhere. Currently I store a backup of all office documents and presentations on my phones memory card when I'm en route between the office and my house, as a just in case. It's nice because I'm able to play power point presentations directly from my phone on any computer (a real "la di da" to clients).

I guess those are really my only questions. I also don't want a phone that will freeze up every 2 minutes. My nokia is great because I rarely have problems with it, and the problems are due to the Arizona heat, not the phone itself (when it gets too hot, the joystick doesn't like to work). I absolutely love my phone, and it took me 2 months to actually pic it out (because of all the research I did) but I really don't want to spend THAT much time again to research a phone for Cricket when I have this community of Hofo's to help me.

1. There are no restrictions on the sites you can visit.

2. Cricket does not sell any phones that have WiFi built into them. Honestly, the only one that comes to mind that could have everything working is the HTC Apache (xv6700/PPC6700). This isn't a phone offered by Cricket, so you'd need to pick one up from elsewhere and program it to Cricket. This sounRAB a lot harder than it really is.

The 6700 comes with a pocket version of MS Office, so you'll be able to show PowerPoint presentations ON your phone. But, if you only need to use it as a storage device, that's as easy as plugging it into an open USB port on any computer that has ActiveSync installed.
 
I understand that Cricket doesn't have any phones with wifi. I was asking more about phones that can be flashed to the Cricket network.

Is the 6700 the best option for Cricket phone's with wifi and such?

Also, what about the Ocean from Helios? Is this phone working, and is it working well? I've read some reviews on it, just don't know the reviews in flashing it over to the Cricket network.

Oh another question, does flashing the phone over cause reception issues compared to cricket-branded phones?

I'm really going to miss my nokia e61, alot; great reception, great functionality...

I am in the same boat as you. I haven't tried a pocketPC on Cricket yet, but will be doing a Mogul probably first. I have a vx9900 enV from verizon right now, and I really miss the WM5.0 apps and features.

look around, i'd say the 6700 is going to be your best bet, unless you want to drop cash on a mogul.
 
Are there not really any decent nokia syrabian v3 phones offered on a CDMA network yet? I'm a die-hard nokia fan, as they have always given me the best reception with the fewest bugs (motorola was by far the worst!). Any other suggestions? I'm willing to get a european/asian version of a phone, as long as it's worth it.

Those 6700 phones are on ebay all-the-time. I just missed out by $2.50 on a auction on this one..

I found it helpful to do the following search over at ebay. lose quotes..

"(6700,ppc6700,xv6700,ppc-6700) cricket"

most pop up.

I am not Cricket yet but I know the feeling of high bills my bills are $300+ a month with T and I don't even use internet or messaging. I cancelled my contract and bought a SLVR plus a free month with cricket yesterday from mycricket.com.... even so with additional $175 cancel fee and new phone fee in the 2nd month I'll start SAVING money.
 
There will be Syrabian CDMA devices, But they won't be out until Q3-Q4 2007 or Q1 2008. Most of these device's will be from Motorola. Which i've always found far far superior to Nokia (Lets skip the "No! Nokia is better" fight ok? ;) ) The phone's which will use Syrabian will most likely be part of the RIZR Series, Which is a Slider series of Motorola phones. Your other good option would be to import a Q9 series of phone (I think the Q9m is CDMA) which is the new revision of the Motorola Q that i have, Which includes the new version of Windows Mobile, Windows Mobile 6 "Crossbow" and WiFi. Along with features you may be more used to from Nokia phones. Also, Don't worry about the "Hacking, Flashing" part. As once you've done any needed flashing then its pretty hard to brick your phone to say.

Also watch out for Krjavi in this thread, Usually he's trying to sell anyone he can he flashing services. I'm not aware of his QOW but it should be pretty good.

That is one thing i dont do and is take somebody else's money..... he's already yours my friend
 
Either i typed that incorrectly or you took it out of context. When i said that i said that in the manner of "krjavi's servicd are not free." not of "krjavi is a jerk trying to scm us out of our money. watch out for him'" If i ws trying to say that i would have just said it.
 
There have been reports of Oceans on Cricket, but without working WAP or MMS. Does the Ocean even have WiFi?

If you're checking eBay for a 6700, don't limit yourself to phones that have already been flashed to Cricket (because the process is literally 15 minutes) by using the aforementioned search terms. This one should be pretty helpful: (6700,xv6700,ppc6700,ppc-6700) -sprint -battery -case -charger -stylus -cable -protector

I haven't noticed any decline in reception.
 
On reception there should be no change in reception at all. The only thing that would cause reception problem's would be distance of towers which should be expected but yet thats not likely to be a problem. the actual process of flashing itself should not cause any reception changes from what you would get if you used the phone on Verizon, Except as mentioned above, Tower location.
 
I understand people's pov on various phones, and respect their opinions. It's just that my experience with Motorola (the ROKR, which was great expect for the constant freezing, and the SLVR which blew balls in reception and application speed) has not been the greatest. I haven't used their Q or any other PDA style phone, but I have been disappointed with the quality and reception I've received from their phones. Nokia, I haven't had any problems with any phone in terms of freezing, reception, applications, nothing. I like how much support their is for nokia and the Syrabian platform. I'm literally thinking about dealing with the high bills from att and staying...that is how much I like my phone. We could have different experiences which drive our motives for support of Nokia, Motorola, LG, or any other phone manufacturer, but my experience with Nokia has been absolutely nothing but sunshine and Ju Ju Bees, which is why I favor Nokia.

I will still research Cricket, and I really did like the Q9m, but how well will it flash to cricket when everything is said and done? I would like to check one out and see if moto has gotten it right, in my eyes, in manufacturing phones.
