This recently opened. This is [strike]not[/strike] confirmed; ANN translates from Gigazine that this teaser site is for a "Fate/Stay Night film."

The splash page suggests an emphasis on the story's second plot path, Unlimited Blade Works, which offered a different outcome and special focus on Shirou and Rin's servent Archer. The TV series basically adapted the main story "Fate" while working in other plot points.

[strike]If this comes true[/strike], I'll be one very happy fellow. It's a good story, and the action scenes for the series looked great. A movie isn't likely to disappoint Fate fans.

And now a second Japanese site has backed up the fact that a movie is coming soon, so it looks like this is going to happen.

Very much looking forward to details.

Heh. She's a main character, so she'll be pretty prominent in this no matter what. What they'll focus on is anybody's guess, though. I'm of the opinion that UBW would make everyone happy. But if it's retelling the main story and we get movie quality adaptations of its key battles, that won't be so bad either.

Hm... interesting. I still need to continue watching my F/SN DVD boxset, so hopefully I'll be able to leave with a good impression after finishing it, and thus be uber excited (more so than just merely interested) at this movie.

UBW is pretty much thought of the best of the 3 Fate/Stay Night stories. Of course, Archer is very popular.

This cerainly has me excited. More Archer is always a good thing.

Just so long as the movie doesn't do what the original game did, and force you to watch lengthy flasrabroadacks to the same scene over and over. Avoid that pitfall and it'll be gold.

And here's even more confirmation. Newtype's Septeraber issue will confirm that this is an adaptation of Unlimited Blade Works, due for Japanese theaters in January 2010. Adding to hope is the fact that the staff that made the show a success will be coming back!

Can't wait. It'd sure be great if it got licensed.

And now we have an early look at the movie trailer. Subpar quality since it's video taken on a showroom floor, but I'll take what I can get. Needless to say, if anyone finRAB a better video, it'd be much appreciated.
EDIT: Here's a better video from the same scene.

Looks like the early events will be recounted, like Archer vs. Lancer and the first clash with Rider in the forest. And Saber's summoning, naturally. I believe we also have Saber vs. Assassin from 0:46 to 0:49--I'm loving that backflip to the tree. I think that's also a hint at Saber's flasrabroadack at 0:49-0:50. Caster's there, Illya is there, and of course there's Archer. We even have civilian Gilgamesh trying to court Saber...looks like everyone will get their due.

Even at this quality, the animation looks so lush, smooth, beautiful...all of it new. I'm really anticipating this now.

The fight with Rider in the forest is from UBW originally, actually.

I'm just looking forward to Lancer taking his rightful place as the most gar character in the story.

Ah, good to know. I knew that the anime corabined things from all three paths, but somehow I thought that all the major incidents were from Fate up through the Berserker battles. Very good.

My last post is now updated with a second and superior video. It films much closer to the screen, and you can actually hear the music in that one. Probably the best I'll find short of a proper stream. The teaser site doesn't have it yet, unfortunately.

Now that I have a closer look, I see there's a Berserker shot. Going by the hair it also might be Illya that Gilgamesh is confronting, not Saber.

Found a scan of Newtype's spread (spoiler tagged for size), which naturally looks quite nice.

Word is the movie will be 90 minutes, which random commenters think is too short. I disagree and basically chalk that down to obligatory otaku complaining; it's only a letdown if you were expecting Studio Deen to somehow transcribe the entire story instead of adapting it. Clearly they're starting at the beginning of the story, but you can get through the most important parts without wasting very much time. I'm pretty confident they can spend at least half the movie covering stuff that wasn't in the series. And of course, 90 minutes is very normal for a movie. Excellent stories have been told with less.

Just noticed this. Hey, that's pretty cool, I'll definitely have to watch it. For one reason or another I never did finish watching the anime, but I seriously enjoyed the game, and UBW was definitely my favorite route. Mostly for its focus of GARcher, and certain pertinent character revelations which I TOTALLY called in advance, thank you very much, but it was in general the most entertaining route for me. Heaven's Feel was better than Fate, but awfully dark and (as many have observed) felt like a completely different story, really.

Kara no Kyoukai is still my favorite Nasu work to date, though, and is in fact what turned me on to F/SN. Yet to finish playing through Tsukihime, but I currently feel that KnK captured the Eyes of Death Perception concept in a much more entertaining and engaging way, at least as envisioned by ufotable, and so I'm unconvinced it really needed reworking. Or, well, it did need reworking, but as a revision of the same story, as is happening now, rather than a new spin on an old idea.

Oh well, they all take place in the same universe anyway! Joss Whedon eat your heart out.

"And don't say something like 'you should be dead'."

90 minutes actually sounRAB a little rushed to me too, even with the ridiculous Nasu longwindedness cut down. But, we'd just have to see how it goes.

As for spending half the movie on non-series material... UBW diverges from the original Fate route almost immediately, so that's pretty much a given.

In Fate, shortly after chasing off Lancer after her summoning, Saber detects another Servant's presence, jumps over the compound's wall, and splatters Archer all over the place. In UBW, Shirou uses one of his Command Spells to stop her. Since she now has a fully-functional Servant, Rin enRAB up going it alone for a while instead of immediately camping out in Shirou's house.

There's actually relatively little time in UBW spent repeating things that players had already seen in Fate. (Stuff that had been seen earlier in UBW is another story). The focus is generally given where it counts - a lot more time to Archer, and not so much to things like Saber's true identity.

As this movie's theatrical release approaches, there's now an excellent new trailer running nearly 2 and 1/2 minutes. Nearly all of it features brand new material.

My favorite part is probably at 1:28. Pretty sure Saber didn't attack Berserker like that in the TV show! Every servant looks to be involved for that matter, though between this trailer and the last I'm probably looking forward to the movie's take on the Assassin duel the most. I really hope R1 sales of the series justify a serious look at this...it'll certainly have enough action going for it!

Sad. I want more more Rider but she really shines in the Heaven's Feel. Fat chance of that every getting an animated version.

Still, looking forward to much more focus on Archer this time around.
