install an electric heater for them? Will it make them less tolerant of the cold in the future?

Sure. Make sure it is secure or surrounded by a barrier (old fencing) so they don't knock it down and cause a fire. Cats LOVE to be warm.

A heater could be dangerous. Maybe get a bale of straw for them to bed down in. They will be fine.

Absolutely not. You should never leave electric heaters unattended. Especially with animals that could possibly be injured or killed. Not to mention the risk of fire.

I'm sure the cats would like it, but it could really be a fire hazard. Make sure that there isn't anything flammable near the heater and I would also check the heater cord for chewing damage.

i wouldnt put a heater in for them, those bastards are MEAN, if i was you i would want the OUT because if you allow them now in winter, theyll never leave. just because it gets warmer doesnt mean they dont need shelter. I would get moth balls or anything to get them away.

It would be cheaper & safer if you put some cardboard boxes in there, lying on their side, with some old blankets in it. They'll curl up inside & their body heat will keep them warm.

You could even get some little beds at petstores that have a heat-reflective layer inside. The cat will feel warmer, but there's no electricity to worry about. If you can get their trust at some point & get some help to have them spayed/neutered, that would be great. Good luck.

It depends if they are dogs or not, this being a DOG forum. Try CATS - it's on the list (look to your left on the page before this one)
