calls. What type of lawyer? I had her sign a paper stating how much will be paid back and I signed it also.

File a suit in small claims court, that's what it's for. You can file for less that $50 most places.

No lawyer would take a case to try to recover 1K

Go to your local courthouse and file a small claims suit. You might even get invited to appear on Judge Joe Brown, Judge Judy. I filed a small claims and they had to pay the amount owed and the filing fee. Make sure to bring your evidence with you.

Cases like this typically don't require a lawyer.

You can file a small claims case against her. It's a very simple process and doesn't cost much (in my area, about $75. It varies though.). Be sure and sue her for the cost of filing the claim too. Most states allow it to be included.

Don't loan family/friends money ... period. It never ends well.

Instead, if they ask for money, just give them 10% of it as "a gift to help". This gets you off the hook, you are still a good friend that helped, and the issue is irrevocably resolved.

For $1,000? You don't need a lawyer.

Sue her in small claims court. It's cheap and easy and you can do it yourself.

Why pay a lawyer? They would charge you more than that 1000 dollars. Go to the courthouse and file a civil suit and take her to court yourself. Bring any supporting documents and sue her, not only for the thousand dollars, but court costs and lost income from work to go to court.

If you win, her only recourse will be to pay or file bankruptcy, which will cost her more than what she will owe you.

small claims court, i think its around 25-35 dollars to go file and they will give you a court date..do it... dont be a rug for anyone..and you can have a lawyer in small claims court, when i went to sue a landlord i was listening to someone elses case and he had a lawyer...but you do not need one...you get to state your case,
