get a search warrant? I know a police officer can take a drug dog down a apartment building hallway to search it because its public property. If the dog smells drugs in a room the police officer can get a search warrant and search it for drugs. But. What if the police officer is walking down the street and the drug dog smells some drugs in a car and nobody is in it. Can the police get a search warrant to search the car?

He doesn't need a search warrant. The Carroll Doctrine allows him to search a car without a search warrant based only on probable cause.

Yes, the officer can get a search warrant and search the car. It is called probable cause. Actually, if the officer is able to get into the vehicle he could search it right then and there without a search warrant.

No. he does not need to get a Search Warrant..

"Reasonable Suspicion" is under that RULE.. Cops do not need a search warrant.......
