city roads.? Explain using your knowledge of Newton's Law why there is a difference.
 
The engine has to produce less torque when traveling at a constant speed on the expressway. Since acceleration is zero, the only force needed to keep the car going is the force to overcome friction.

In stop-and-go traffic, the car is continually accelerating forward (which requires extra force provided by the engine) and accelerating backward (slowing down, which requires force provided by the breaks.)
