a/c problems. 2001 dodge stratus r/t.?

over the weekend, when i turned on the ac in my car the rpms fluctuate quite a bit. car does not stall. what could this be?
 
I would open the hood to see if the clutch on the ac is operating.I have no idea where you live so I'll wing it.If the temp. is at or below 50 degrees the unit will not operate well.Have you done any work to your ac last year?The unit could be over charged.Good luck.
