...w/anther brker b4 court.Illegal? He claims he can 100% claim i signed a lease and thus violated an agreement saying I would pay a fee to him if I signed a lease at a specific address. He wont show the evidence unless I go to court or settle beforehand. Does real estate law in NYC require him to provide that to me first?

Has he initiated legal action?

If somebody demands money from me (that is, outside the usual provision of goods and services), I take the position that they're free to try to convince me they're entitled to it. If they can't make out a case to me that satisfies me they'd win at court, they won't get a dime from me. Because I know that, if he won't show me his hand prior to initiating litigation, he probably doesn't have much of a hand to tip, and therefore he won't likely bother with the expense of a law suit because he expects to lose.

If he's already started litigation, you're entitled to get those documents. However, if you're in litigation, you probably want to hire a lawyer to assist you with this.
