A Big night out = Adventures in Babysitting?

The film on BBC1 last night called "A Big night out" with Elizebeth Shue, is im sure the same film that was called "Adventures in Babysitting" about 15 years ago.

I argued with the girlfriend last night and i Insisted i used to love the film but she says it must be a sequal but im sure it was the same (I only saw last 15 mins).

Is this the same film? If so why the name change? Anyone know?
 
Yeah it was!! How weird... me and mates of mine were only last night talking about how the Americans change the name of films/shows when they are shown here... Like Lois and Clark in the States was called The New Adventures of Superman here.... never understood why!!!
 
Ah, Elizabeth Shue :)

I love the line in that film where she's lecturing her charges before going on their 'adventure'.

Shue (very stern): If anyone misbehaves, they'll be dead, murdered, stabbed, killed.

Boy (questioning, hopeful): Raped?

The film shown on BBC1 last night was called 'A Night on the Town (uktv)' aka 'Adventures in Babysitting (us1987)'.
Both the same film perhaps with cuts to one version.
One of my fave 80s movies, along with 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)' both similar in style.

I think the main reason for the name change was so the film wouldnt be confused with the 'Adventures of ??' series of softcore comedy movies of the late 70's early 80's.
Eg 'Adventures of a Plumber's Mate' & 'Adventures of a Private Eye'
 
I remember going to see it as "A Night on the Town" at the cinema, but it was retitled for the video for some reason (can't remember what it was called in the US when it was released).
 
if a film underperforms in the states they sometimes change the title over here. eg the rock's 'welcome to the jungle' was called 'the rundown' in america. it happens quite a bit - they try and make the title more generic
 
I watched this film the other day when it was on, 1st time i seen it as well, and quite enjoyed.

Throughout the film, i was a bit puzzled were i had seen elisabeth shue before.

When going to IMDB.com the next day, it turns out, she stars in BTTF 2 & 3 as jennifer, which was on itv1 a few days before or so - 1 of my best films, as probably others as well.

Also found out that the girl (was it sara i think) in the film, also was in BTTF as well.

In BBTF 1, were marty first goes back to 1955, there is this family his car crashes into, and this girl thinks he is an alien. Well i think its that scene anyway.

Unless, she plays the sister of his younger mum.

If not of these are correct, then who did she play, she is listed as sally baines.

This has been shown before on Channel 5 hacked to death, but I'm glad it was shown on BBC 1 uncut. Seen it about 10 years ago when relatives of mine taped the Simpsons for me on Sky 1 and left the video running and I got this aswell. Good film, with some genuinely funny moments. I might just buy the DVD myself...

'A Night on the Town' is on BBC1 right now!

I have the DVD (region 2) already, although it's called 'Adventures in Babysitting'

I think Penelope Ann Miller steals the movie, she's great!
 
I liked the movie but I have not seen it in years. There are some witty lines in it, like where Vincent D'Onofrio played a machanic and was wanting too much cash for repairs to the car, cash to which they never had. Anyway, the little girl thought he was Thor, as Thor is a hero of hers. Then her brother stepped in while she was chatting to Vincent and he said something to her and she looked at Vincent and said: "Dont listen to him, he thinks you're a homo!". And then Vincent grabs the boy and says "You spreading rumours about me, kid?!?" :D
 
It was definitely A Night on the Town originally. I went to a preview and got a "Night on the Town" T-Shirt. I still have it somewhere, doubt it fits.

I know I would never have touched an "Adventures in Babysitting" T-shirt with a barge pole :D

Love the film though, you don't see it much on tv these days.
 
The film is officially called Adventures in Babysitting, it was changed to A Night On The Town for the UK, although I have a very old recording somewhere of that time I mentioned above when it was shown on Sky One and it was called Adventures in Babysitting. The R2 DVD is called Adventures in Babysitting, so I guess they just changed it back. I think it was changed at the time due to the similarity with another franchise of films about Babbysitters and the movie company didn't want a mix-up to affect ticket sales or somehting... Maybe someone knows more about it than I do...

EDIT!!!! - Just checking Wikipedia and theres a REMAKE in 2008. And guess who's playing the lead? Raven whatsherface form that Disney show That's So Raven! Sweet Jesus NNNOOOO!!!!

According to IMDB, there was a TV spinoff called Adventures In Babysitting - which seemed to consist of just the pilot show, so maybe the UK title was changed in case the TV show got the green light.

It has not been the first time a film has had it's name changed after a few years. The 1985 Matthew Modine film Crazy For You ended up on Sky as Vision Quest for some unknown reason.
