A simple machine does work with one movement. There are 6 simple machines; the inclined plane, the wedge, the screw, the lever, the pulley, and the wheel and axle. A machine that combines more than one simple machine is known as a compound machine. Compound machines include object such as a garden hoe which utilizes 2 simple machines - the handle which is a lever, and the blade which is a wedge. A machine that includes many simple machines is often known as a complex machine which includes objects like bicycles, typewriters and automobiles.
