Nice to see most think it is amazing :)

Had a mate who was very doubtful - but thought it was amazing!!!

Can't wait to see it again ;)

I went to see the film and took two boys aged 11 and 14. All three of us loved the film. A real movie-going experience. Both boys cant wait to see it again. I thought it was a fantastic film full of visual wonder and action. The CGI is completely realistic and the 3D is completely immersive. I thought the story was great too and cant understand some of the criticism. Star Wars was hardly original either.
 
I agree with this aswell. The story itself wasnt anything revolutionary, but it was entertaining enough and the visuals and particularly the 3d was very well used. Not the best movie ever, but the best cinematic experience so far imo.

I was apprehensive of the length of the movie dragging, but i really was engrossed in it the entire time and i thought the 3d would be a distracting novelty, but it was subtle and immersive.

The only thing i struggled with was the depth of field. In 2d movies, often one thing (a persons face) is in focus, but closer and farther away objects are out of focus, because of the 3d effect, my brain was convinced that i could look at the nearer unfocussed images if i just refocussed my eyes. Weird effect, but got used to it.
 
Brilliant quote? More like utter bollocks. I am sure Peter Jackson is not in the least bit worried about how his LOTR trilogy stanRAB up to Camerons film.
 
Saw it in 3D tonight and it managed to keep me entertained for 3hrs but only just. The feeling I have now is that I never want to see or hear anything about it ever again.

Just got back from watching it in 3d (real-D).

It was good, pretty straightforward plot, you kind of know straight away what is going to happen, no big "OMG didn't see that coming" moments.

The effects and the renderings of the creatures was amazing, you eventually forget they are CG, and just enjoy the action.

The lanRABcapes are stunning, especially in 3D.

I give it 9/10.

Oh and you can tell it's a cameron film, lots of blue filters, the ships look similar to the terminators space ships.
Also, some of them look a bit like the drop ships from "Aliens", lots of mentions of things being in "clicks", movement sensors from the Aliens film, also the story involves a big bad company, a nasty company man, and a likable marine who befrienRAB ripley (or hatever her characters name is:p), in the Alien film the marine was branded a "grunt" by the company man, in this film, there is a sticker on the back of the marines wheelchair saying "grunt", so i guess thats an in-joke:p, also the robotic cargo lifters from Aliens that ripley used to fight the Alien in make a appearance (well they are similar anyway).

every time we cut to action sequences, i kept thinking how much i wished this was a new Alien film by Cameron, or even a terminator film, because the style of the technology is similar, i found myself forgetting this was Avatar, not to say this wasnt an engaging film, it was, i loved it, but I WANT ALIENS 2:D
 
It's call an opinion, people are allowed to have them. Just because you don't agree doesn't make it laughable.

I've seen a few films regarded as masterpieces by many many people and thought they were crap. Doesn't make anyone who gives them a 9.5 or even a 10/10 laughable.
 
I have just got back from seeing it at the Imax 3D Wimbledon and all I can say is fekin' brilliant.

I'm a frequent cinema goer and have seen so many hyped up disappointments over the years but this was not one of them.

I have not enjoyed a spectacle like this since seeing Star Wars for the first time 32 years ago.

The Na'vi cannot be CGI, for I reckon Cameron spent the money getting them in from Alpha Centuari. It looks that good.

Go see for yourselves.
 
Went to see it in 3D today and I enjoyed it much more than I'd expected.

Okay, so similar stories have been told before but the characters were great, it was visually amazing and never a dull moment throughout - this was a totally entertaining experience.

Well its now the second highest grossing film ever surpassing The Lord of the Rings-Return of the King. And in 21 days.
Even taking into account the increased prices for 3D, this seems freakish to me. Iv seen a trailer and my first thought was it looks like a computer game, and that has put me off seeing it so far. I guess I will go-and the mere news of what its doing at the box office will no doubt force others to see it who maybe wouldnt. Box office gold really.
So just Titanic to go it seems.
 
Saw it this morning at 10am at Cineworld in Dublin in 3D.

It doesn't drag. The world is beautiful. The 3D and CGI are perfect.

But...

As I read in one review, I cannot see myself watching it again. The story is beyond predictable and rehashes many of Cameron's previous sci-fi themes with cliched characters and by-the-book plot points. I've watched Terminator, T2 and Aliens any number of times. I've watched Titanic twice and even The Abyss maybe three times (including the special edition just to see).

I cannot see myself embarking on this again. It's just too plot-lite.
 
Having seen 3D where it felt like you could reach out and touch things I found the 3D stuff in Avatar quite disappointing. It's just depth of field and doesn't add much to the enjoyment of the movie IMO. The only thing I can remember about the 3D was the computer screens. Plus you can never see as much colour as you want, would you sit infront of your TV with sunglasses on? I had to keep lifting up the glasses to give my brain some vivid colours to process.
 
My local Odeon multiplex is showing Avatar in 2D on the main screen and 3D on a slightly smaller screen (as that's the only one currently equipped with a Digital projector) so my frienRAB and I decided to pay the
