After reading a lot about the success stories of dogs, cats and even hamsters, I wondered, what about fish?

Tell your story about adopting/caring your fish or some of the things that you have learned. Sharing experiences could help other fish owners with current or future issues. (Things like this actually did help me)

So, tell us your little fishy's story!

MINE: =P

When I first got my veil tail Betta, Blake, he was in BAD condition (I got him from Wal-Mart, so figures). He was inactive, underfed, living in dirty water 8in a tiny cup; he had clamped fins (which were showing signs of finrot) and looked just horrible.

Having no experience with Bettas, I took the little guy home and fed, changed his water, cleaned his tank...etc. according to only what I could find on the internet - as the Wal-Mart guy who was suppose to be knowledgeable, has LESS idea than me when it came to fish.

Now, about two months later, Blake has regained his health and has become active without any signs of clamped fins or finrot, and he loves to watch from inside his 2-gallon tank. And he is my very first Betta (and third fish) (:

** Best story = 10 points =)

I have and have had many fish over my time but this is one I liked and felt good about.

I was in walmart one day shopping for food and other random lead based chinese imports and I happened to walk by a fish tank display. I did a double take at first because up to this point I never realized walmart even sold fish. So I got to looking at these tanks they have and seeing all the dead fish and the living fish with just about every disease you could have from fin rot, ick, fugal infetcions ect. And then I came up to this goldfish tank that had a jack dempsey in it ? I was like WTF is he doing in their. So i asked the lady in charge of that area and the fish ( who btw didn't know the differnce between a fish and a twinkie) what was he doing all alone with the goldfish. And she tells me that they got him by mistake and that other walmarts carry them (cichlids) and they didnt so they put it with the goldfish hopping it would sell or get eaten. ( I'm laughing in my head at this point) so i asked her how much ? She goes $3.44 for him and so I rescued him for almost certain death and put him in my little quarintie 20 gallon at home and nursed him back to health. He was in REAL bad shape, he had a bacteria infection ripped fins and had almost no color. After about a month of rehab and watching him i finaly put him in my south american tank with his other buddys where he is now not only the nost colorfull but the center of attention and probaly one of the most smart fish I own to date. I love the satisfaction i get evry time o look at him in his tank swimming around knowing where he came from and how he almost died but now is living it up the way every fish should.

You story is good too btw, i liked it. Keep on Keeping on and good luck

Well, this is my greatest success handling a fish. It was quite effective back in the day:

Haha, that's adorable! Good job in rescuing Blake! Right now, I have six fish, two Angelfish who are mates, expecting to have eggs soon, two Crown Pearlscale Goldfish, one Betta, and one Puffer fish.

This is actually a bad story, but it has somewhat of a happy ending. It has nothing to do with my fish right now, but for my 10th birthday, my Dad's girlfriend (at the time) was wanting to get me a fish tank, and a couple of fish. So, we went out and bought a 10 gallon fish tank, or maybe it was 12, and we set it up, and cycled it, and everything was fine. Then, we got the fish. I had only had the fish for about three weeks, maybe, and one night, I decided it would be better if the tank was pulled forward, so that it would be better to see it. It was in our living room, so I pulled it forward, and I heard a crack. I didn't think it was anything, so I went downstars and helped with dinner. That night, about half an hour - 45 minutes later, I came upstairs to find that the living room was totally flooded, or at least that corner was, and the fish we got, the 7 Guppies, or something like that were all flapping on the floor!

As quick as we could, we tried to save a couple. Out of the seven we had, I managed to save 2. That was six years ago, but I managed to save them for quite a long time!

I remember that night really clearly. I shouldn't have moved the tank! :P

Okay here is my fish story:

My daughter won 4 goldfish at the fair. I went to the store and bought a 10 gallon tank with all the trimmings. Then we went to the pet store and they told us we could have three more goldfish and two cories in there, so I bought them. I did research and research to learn how to care for these fish. That is how I found out how ignorant he was on the care of goldfish. I then bought a 65 gallon tank for them and I only lost one fish. I took back the smaller ones and got a few other goldies my daughter loved. Now I have healthy beautiful goldfish (between 4" and 7") looking forward to a 120g in a few months and 8 other tanks with betta's, african dwarf frogs, sunfish, cories, and snails. Love all my fishy friends and it all started with a few cheap feeders at the fair not even one year ago.

there was a pond where firemen were "playing" with their hose and the next day i went over to see if any water was there and there was just a small puddle. when i approached it tons of birds flew away and i saw a baby catfish laying there in ball of mud. so i went back to the car filled up an empty propell bottle with water from the puddle and took him home. i didn't have any prior noledge of fish and i had a 40 gallon fishtank that i got from a garage sale for 15$ filled it up with water bought the filter and pump in the same day. then i put him in and he didn't look too good. he just kind of sat in a corner for about 2 weeks. i could see him starting to improve. its been about 3 months now and he's happy in his new tank.
