Hey guys looking into purchasing a new bike next year. I found a couple 999r around my area for the same price of a new 1098. I like both body styles but the only thing is that i'm concerned that a 999r will be more to maintain than a 1098 . the one i found has a bunch of goodies on it with 1200 miles, asking 14-16k i think..

I think it depends on how you would ride it. Track? Collector? Daily commuter? I would imagine parts for the 999r would be more if you wadded it but I personally don't know. I would think that a 999r would be more of a collector (maybe not to most purists) but the 1098 is a dime a dozen. I know because I have a 1098s that I tried to unload but couldn't for anything more than 14K. Most people unloaded their 1098 when the 1198 came out. If you don't have to have the latest and greatest, I bet you could find a cheap 1098s...get the classified section. Good luck!

well the next bike will be my daily rider/trackbike. I just saw the R and new it was limited and it would be nice to have one in my garage, its not everyday you see one.

999R easy choice. Harder to find and 1098s,1198s for sale everywhere you look. Get the 999now and pick up a 1098/1198 ayear or two down the road.

I sold my 848 and picked up my 999R xerox 4 months ago and couldn't be happier. The 1098 series of bikes are great bikes but common, the 999r is not, and one reason I ride a Ducati is to not be common. Plus if you are a bigger guy the 999r will fit much better.
