nah they look nothing alike.

They look somewhat similiar and this is why I went with the recent purchase of a 1098. I've always wanted a 916/996 but at that time I was still into speed. I went with Jap bikes. Then I remembered when they went to the 999 style I was like Ughh (although I love em now,) and held on to my 01 Gixxer 1000 till 05. Then I remembered seeing the1098 and I was like, yes thats my bike........so here I am. BTW I borrowed a 996 for a 4 day trip to Deals Gap 2yrs ago. Worst trip ever, my cojones felt like they were in my throat and my wrists, pinky and ankles were killing me. I couldn't ride for more the 100 miles on that bike. Now on my 1098.......WOW!!!!!!!!! What a difference....no more BALLS IN THROAT feeling or any other discomfort. I've logged on 300 miles since I've picked up the bike a week ago. Love the way it handles and I have alot more confidence on it. Now as for riding at night with those headlights.....thats another story. LMAO!!!!!!!! Just my .02

Stating the obvious, but Ducati deliberately went back to a similar style of the 916 for the 1098. This was after the not-so-popular 999.
