99 Pontiac Grand Am Overheating?

It has coolant in it, The temp is a little over half when Im not on the highway but when Im on the high way it goes all the way to over half but doesnt shut off. Could it be the thermastat? Or should I look at other things too?
 
Either thermostat or water pump.

EDIT: Just thought of this...It could be an electric fan not kicking on, too.
 
All of the above and look at the radiator to see if it's all plugged up with bugs and if it is just go spray it out at the carwash. Look in the holes under the grill on the bottom and you can see it. But probably a bad thermostat or water pump, which if you replace the water pump you should replace the thermostat anyway.
