the rpms wont go over about 5500 rpms and it will only go about 30mph now..it was running fine at one point about 7200 rpm at 54 mph, anyone have any clue what the problem is. and oh yea compression is good

howbout spark?

the cdi boxes are famous for standing up to these extreme conditions really well but they are also notorious for failing out of nowhere.

my parents own a 97 stx 1100 and what your describing sounds like how mine was running when 1 of the plugs backed itself out during running. cdi boxes will usually only loose 1 cyl at a time. if the box isnt produing spark to one cyl that could be your problem.

it is also important to ground the spark plugs on cdi ignitions whenever they arent in the engine (ie: compression creck) otherwise you can damage the cdi box

How do you know compression is good?

If you used the "thumb method" you don't know. Even using a gauge and getting good even readings, there could still be cylinder wear causing a drag when hot. I have run into several Kawasakis that start to "fade out" the way you describe. New pistons/rings and some times an overbore is the cure.

Start of course with plugs, filters and clean the carbs. The CDI is probably not the trouble but the plug wire ends will corrode. They are easily changed or cleaned ans the cable is trimmed back about a 1/2".

If it feels like it is "cutting out" and maybe making popping noises, you have ignition trouble. If it feels like it is running as fast as it can, but is pulling an anchor, you have fuel or engine trouble.

Also don't overlook a binding pump or shaft. That can bog down a ski although it is rare.
