i hit a small bump yesterday and heard a LOUD noise. found that this big spring above the wheel broke. what is it? will i be alright driving to work today?? i've gotta wait a little while before i am able to schedule/pay for repair...
you guys are the BEST!!! i'm going to call for estimates today!

That is your coil spring. It is possible that the car is drivable. Make sure the broken spring is not hitting anything like the body or the tire. Push down on that corner of the car and make sure you don't hear any rubbing sounds when the suspension is compressed. If the broken spring is clear of all other moving parts then you should be alright. Just take it real easy and understand that your handling will probably be funny and you will probably be putting a lot of extra wear on that tire. So take it very carefully and get it fixed ASAP.

Sorry, but you'll have to replace them, and thier not cheap. Get several estimates by phone, one from the dealer for a sanity check. extreemly unsafe to drive it in this condition. looking at about $700?
