I am lookin at buying a 98 Grand Cherokee, but it slip from drive to neutral. It only has 90K, the owner is a woman whos boyfriend I talked to and he said they have not done anything with the Jeep as far as checkin it or having it checked. I check the tranny fluid and it was almost non existing, could that be all? it just being low on fluid?

Steve K, I can speak from experience. I own a 98 Grand LTD and I got a recall notice about that problem, and to have it fixed free, so maybe she didn't get the notice. I've had no incidents with my tranny however in the 10 yrs I've owned it.
If the trannny level was that low, I don't think it would make the tranny slip from park tho. It's prob from the recall problem. Have the fix done free.

I have a jeep 98 black with black leather my brother has a jeep 2003 either of us has had that problem or recieved a recall notice like the first guy answered but, I also have a brand new aztec that does leak trans. fluid but it doesn't slip well not yet.. But if you haven't boought it yet your not stuck with the problem.. I wouldn't buy it. theres alot of jeeps around, and the trans probably the most expensive on jeep since its 4x4.. Is it only slipping to neutral when its going up hill or sliding?? I thought maybe it was a safety or something? I don't know? mine doesn't do it..
