My boyfriend took his 98 Jeep Cherokee in for a u joint replacement. About 2 hours later they called him and told him that they could not put the new u joint back on because his stub shaft ear was bent, and that it would be an additional 160$ plus labor, and they couldn't put the new u joint on making his truck undriveable Is this a true problem or are they just trying to make problems to scam us out of more money??

It is possible that your bf hit something in the road, bending the stub ear & damaging the u-joint.

It is also possible that the mechanic bent it working on it, but he would never admit it to his boss.

At this point you should get a used drive shaft from the junk yard.
