have a 98 civic. 200,000 kil. have to crank it alot in the morning to start it. timming is set with center red mark on the timming mark on cover. there isnt any hood sticker. car runs fine and lots of power and starts better after it has been started once. gas filter is fine and all plugs and wires and vacumns are fine. was wondering if there is any thing that gives it a shot of gas when you first turn the key because it seems to be fuel. the honda i had before seemed to click around the injectors when i turned the key and this one doesnt do that.

The fuel system is suppose to hold pressure even if the engine is off (for faster start). If the fuel system is NOT holding pressure (with the engine off) the it would make the car hard to start.

The way to test it is to hook up a fuel pressure meter. Start the car. and then kill the engine. See if the pressure holds. If the problem is overnight then you have to wait overnight with the meter connected.

Then you can proceed (depending on what you found).

Also try to turn the key to ingition on (where all the lights come on). Then wait for about 30 second for the fuel pressure to build PSI. See that solves your problem. ;-)

This test doesn't always work with every car because some cars are "smart" and only pump the fuel for few seconds without the engine running.

Good luck...

P.S. Sears sells fuel pressure meter for about $45. :-)
