The only possible idea that I have is that during idle, the exhaust is vibrating against something underneath. Start the vehicle, properly securing it against rolling/moving, and take a look underneath. maybe one of your exhaust brackets has become worn out. And, the only reason you hear it during idle is, the motor isn't generating enough "thrust" to overcome the vibration. Wire coat hangers or mechanics wire is a viable solution.
