98 Dodge Ram 1500 battery cable?

my battery cable broke off from the red terminal. when I bought a new one it didn't have the same wires. mine has a cable going to a fuse box and then a thicker one going down underneath the engine into neverland.
the terminal head broke off from these cables...
Any ideas why the new one does not have the same cable (auto store says they're the right ones)? Can I splice a new terminal on the old cable?

Yeah, as long as it's long enough to still reach the battery, just carefully shave the housing off the last inch of the cables and attach a new clamp style terminal to them. Use some corrosion prevention grease on the exposed part on the wire when you're done and on your battery terminal. This will help prevent the wire from breaking again.
