98 Chrysler Concorde problem (timing belt probably)?

My uncle bought this car at a auction, ran for about 10-15 minutes and kinda heard a ticking noise, then smoke came out and died. we towed it back to town and mechanics saw it's the timing belt (chain) the engine DOES! spin freely. but we don't know if on these engines (2.7 24v) when the timing chain breaks does it bend the valves?

anything else it could be?
