does anyone know if I upgrade to 9700 and stay with my grandfathered 19.99 bis plan does that give me access to the 3g network. Ive a different answers from tmobile. I know I dont get visual voicemail. Ive about had it with tmobile they have had a 3g bb for one day and have acted like theyve had it for years!

I am on a wait and see on this myself. Yesterday the rep told me the 9700 won't fully work with my $19.99 plan. We don't have 3G in the Pensacola area. I don't see the point in paying for more than I can make use of. Don't change your plan until you test the phone.

I upgraded yesterday and they told me I had to pay the 24.99 since I'm resigning. I'm in philly and have 3g but that's not why I have to pay more, they are trying to move all tmo bis users to the 24.99 plan. I don't see the change to my account yet but I'm sure it will be there next billing cycle.

It is apparently T-Mobile's policy to attempt to force all $19.99 Blackberry Users to $24.95 when they upgrade the phone.
I was able through considerable effort to retain my $19.99 plan when I upgraded yesterday. I can tell you I do get 3G while still being on the $19.99 plan. I do believe though they will not activate the "visual voicemail" feature w/o kicking you to $24.95. You will not be able to do it only because if you are grandfathered your 19.99 blackberry plan will NOT show in My-Tmobile and any changes you make online will cause you to get bumped up to a more expensive plan. You can make changes by talking to 611.

I am also using the internet on my bis plan of $19.99 I was told my a customer service rep that if it was changed for any reason to call back and they can reverse it. I don't believe it was changed at all I will check my next billing statement.

Oh god, I just got my 9700 yesterday too and the store guy in the tmobile store said the same thing to me that. Have to go with the 24.99 plan when it's an upgrade and I can't stay with the grandfathered $19.99 plan. I'm pissed I'm calling 611 today..
So far how do you guys like the 9700?

I can say that I am loving my 9700 (thought my wife was going to freak, because I paid out of contract price). The visual voicemail feature is nice, I would like to to see messages displayed as text, other than that. I will be keeping this blackberry for awhile (Ok maybe at least to the next newest one). The sad thing now is my 8900 is sitting in my nightstand, I will take her our occassionally to show her she is still loved.

AWWW, i feel the same way about my 8900.. I feel so bad cuz i sure do love that bb. and with this 9700 i'm trying to get used to because i have nails not tips my original nails and my thumbs get caught between the keys sometimes like when i need to press the space key.. but I do likethis phone becuz its so much faster and brighter and the scream is a little larger than the 8900... me to you say your wife will kill you becuz you payed out of contract price, well my husband to I told him that I payed $200.00 for it.. which actually i had to pay $369.00 and thats with the store taxes to.. and I stil owe 3 payments of $40.00...I should of waitied but I just couldn't.. also, youtube is shown so much better... ENHOY YOUR NEW BB!!!!!

Well I checked my account yesterday and realized that when I bought the phone on Thursday they added a corporate plan that cost $45. I was also going to be charged the $19.99 bb add on-- so i called tmo and they got the $45 removed but told me that they couldnt get me back to the $19.99 plan so now im on the 24.99 plan-- Bummer !

Hi there!

Here's my experience regarding the $19.99 BIS. I called in last monday to order my new Bold 9700 and was also told that the $24.99 BIS is REQUIRED. Of course I was bummed about it and keep pleading my case in keeping my old $19.99 BIS to no avail. In the end I have no choice but just to agree on the $24.99 BIS. After I hang up the phone I tried using the chat service online, hoping that one of the Tmo agent can help me change it back to $19.99 BIS. I even use the Blackberry forum as an example saying that other DO get to keep their $19.99 BIS (hehehe), but still that agent won't let me keep mine.

Today though I called in again to talk about other issues regarding my text messages and at the end of my conversation with one of the Tmo rep, I once again brought up the topic of keeping my $19.00 BIS for my new Bold. This time the rep I spoke with was more nice, friendly and accommodating. She understood my concerns about paying an extra $5 bucks for the new BIS. She put me on hold for a few minutes and then came back to me with a good news about being able to keep my old $19.99 BIS! Of course I was sooo happy after hearing it . The only condition she told me is that I can no longer remove the $19.99 BIS in the future if I decide not to use Blackberry anymore -- which was fine with me.

So you see based on my experience it really depends on the Tmo rep you spoke with. If you can't get it the first time, try calling back some other time because you might get lucky the next time you do .

Good luck all!

I have the grandfathered 19.99 plan and I live in the NYC metro area and 3G is working perfectly with it. No luck though on visual voicemail without the bump in plan. I will continue to use Youmail for free.
