The noise usually stops after about 20sec. Also, after driving awhile the screeching comes back, usually in 1st gear. I think it's related to the a/c because the screeching stops as soon as i turn off the a/c. the a/c is having trouble staying on too. the a/c light will flash and the a/c will stop working. what's wrong w/my car?

You need to have the belt (and maybe the others) replaced. The belt/s are most likely worn/stretched causing them to slip on the pulleys thus creating the noise your hearing.

Don't bother using the products sold to reduce this noise most of the time it's only putting a band aid on the problem.

Depending on what other things this belt operates if it breaks it can leave you stranded. Go ahead and take it to the shop for replacement and or adjustment. Sometime you can get away with the adjustment to take up the slack of a stretched belt.

If there cracked, shiny on the contact side( called glazing) stretched (beyond) adjustment or fraying it's time to replace
