97 Honda Accord Tach Not Working?

I drive a 97 Honda Accord EX V6 with 159k miles, since i've had the car its had a aftermarket tach because the factory tach does not work. Every now and then when i leave the house i notice that the tach jumps around a bit for only a few minutes and then it stops. Inspection is coming around and i need to get this fixed before then i got a few of other things i gotta fixed but first things first
 
the tach does matter if you're driving stick shift. I look at my tach all the time. Although I can drive and shift by just the sound of the engine it would be annoying to not have one. Especially when i do a lot of rev matching, and engine breaking. So if its an automatic than it shouldnt matter. But the speedometer not working would be a big problem =]
