'97 Honda Accord Sedan flaws?

My brakes gave out on the highway when I was doing about sixty. It slammed me into the back of a flatbed truck. I got my brakes looked at and the mechanic said they're fine. I was wondering if there were any flaws in the production that would cause my brakes to go out for just a second?
I forgot to mention we were braking. So I was only going ten-fifteen faster than the truck. The front end is fairly smashed but we could get in to look around.
 
sounds like they are workings somewhat, if you slammed into a truck at 60 the car would be about half its original length. and no there are no recalls that would have caused that.
