97 Dodge NEON ignition switch bad again?

72000 mi car is going on third ignition switch?

This is my wife's car and it has been well maintained. Somewhere around 68000 mi the first switch died, with perplexing symptoms. Start one time and not the next, acting up more when it was cooler or significant weather change.

I realized what was going on when I noticed that when it did not start the "check engine" light would not illuminate with the key in the on position. I used a known good used switch from a friend to diagnose for sure, then promptly went out and bought a $40 new one and installed it. Presto! fixed.

It's one year and 4000 mi later and here we go again same symptoms
and rapping on the switch (not the lock cylinder) with a screwdriver handle got the light to come on and the car to start.
My question is has anyone else ever had this problem and if so was there more to it than the switch it's self?
I guess I should clarify that this car is bone stock and when it fails to start it cranks fine and all accessories, lights, radio etc. work fine and battery voltage is fine, my only tip off to the bad switch was the absence of a check engine light with key on, indication that the computer was not getting voltage from the switch.
