I have a 96 ford ranger in excellent condition with about 160k on it. About a month ago the check engine light went on and I took it somewhere and was told (by the OBD computer thing) that it was either a vacuum hose problem or a faulty sensor. He told me I could take it back to school and when I have time I can take it in and he can take a look at it but it'd be fine. Yesterday I stopped for food and had my truck off for about 20 min. When I went to start it, it would start then shake and shut off. I was able to get it to a gas station to check it out better by reving it. It looked the a spark plug was loose and once I fixed it it ran fine. Today same problem, I was able to drive it after I pushed down the acceleration pedal a few times before starting it and then holding the key for a little longer; it runs fine once its going. My dad is about 2 hours away so he can't look at it but thinks its the automatic choke having problem because I haven't let it rest adequately or run it long enough. Has anyone else had this problem? I read somewhere that someone had this problem and it was an O2 sensor and my check engine light might be because of a sensor. Could it be linked? THANKS
When I had it checked by the computer two codes came up. Vacuum hose and faulty sensor but my mechanic needed time to check it out and he didn't have it and neither did I.
