Hello, currently own a 1994 mazda mx6. 4ws 2.5lt v6 model.
Done 150xxx kms and it's burning alot of oil. When i start it up and take off, it blows blue smoke. Seems to have worn piston rings i think and oil is leaking into the engine. It burns while driving but not that much, notice it more when i take off in the morning as all the oil has leaked into the engine bay and gets burnt when i drive off.

Also i am getting that knock/ticking sound from the pistons, "tapping" some people call it. I've been told its because of engine wear/oil not reaching the entire engine or something.

My question is: Does this all sound like a typical need of an engine rebuild? I love my car but this oil burning it starting to really become annoying and i would like a fix. Would an engine rebuild fix all these issues? Or is there an alternate option. Any idea of the costs of a full engine rebuild?

Sorry this is alot of info & i kno its hard to know whats wrong without seeing the car.

Thanks

yes it sounds like you need a complete overhaul. to do it yourself you can buy kits for up to $400.00 or more depending the kit. shops can run $1500.00-3500.00 depending on the repairs. you may need bore or just a good honing on cylinders wall with oversize rings may work, depending on amount of ware. the tapping is probably in your heads, its probably your valves. I would have the head reworked on any overhaul that could run from $200-400 depending on shop.

yes its time for a rebuild but there are some alternative measures you might try there is a product out called engine restore that helps with rings but if the engine is too far gone you may be in trouble to build it yourself can be done for about $400.00 but to have it built can get on up there about $1500 to $2500

let me know if i helped
