Ok I have 94 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 4WD. About a week ago out of the blue the check engine light came on and the jeep started chugging like. (Double checked there was gas in there). I got to safe spot parked it. Came back in an hour it started and ran fine for about 10 minutes then previous problem started again. I got it to a friend of mine who waorks at a shop. He said it sounded like it wasn't running on all cylinders. Hooked up to computer and it said "1st injector firing improperly". Friend did not have time to bring it in shop but said he would need time to diagnose. Said he thought maybe computer wasn't sending right signals? He wanted time to look it over because he said this was not a common problem with jeeps.
I didn't drive the car but I did post the above info on yahoo answers. Suggestion was made that it was a fuel injector. Attempted to drive car again (thinking magically it had repaired itself) drove around for 40 minutes, local traffic, slower speeds, and never had a problem. Car sat another day or two, attempted to drive again, within 15 minutes problem starts again. Park car for one hour, starts and drives fine all the way home (abt 15 minutes). Decide not to drive again till friend(mechanic)can look at it.
Get it to shop, friend is suspicious that heat is a factor. Leave it with him, and he calls to inform me that at two different times he drove car around, at one time for more than an hour and got the speed up, no problem whatsoever. Says to just bring it in when it starts acting up again.
What the heck is going on?!!!!!!
On one hand I don't want to drive it around for fear it might break down on me some where. On the other hand, I'm scared to try another mechanic and 1. get charged for them to find nothing wrong or 2. get charged for them to make up something wrong, because they can't find the problem either.

What would cause this intermittent problem? Any suggestions? A friend said maybe I just got bad gas and to try an additive or a fuel injection cleaner?

PLEASE PLEASE help me.
