Although I'm not mechanical - at all - as soon as someone said bands (or I thought belts), it described the noise my tranny is making. Kind of a grinding (?) and high RPMs while accelerating from a stop. Then it grips. Same friend said it could easily be adjusted with a torque wrench, which my uncle has.
Question 1) (Because this came up) Are there actually bands on the tranny?
Question 2) Is it a job that someone with reasonable mechanical experience can do? (My uncle)
Question 3) Does anyone have a suggested website for instructions?
Second Part:
I think I blew a seal yesterday, so got some stop leak - just in case a cheap fix would work. Buuuut, if we're pulling the pan to tighten the bands, I'm going to change the fluid and filter. Does that mean I'll need to replace the seal anyway? (or gasket?)
