9300 vs. E62??

Here's the deal. I got a BlackJack (I know, I know) cause I wanted to sync with my Outlook on my work laptop, but found out I'm not allowed to. So it's GooSync for me. In which case, if I'm going to have to use GooSync anyways, I might as well be using it with Symbian rather than the craptastic WM5.

So I'm taking the BlackJack back and getting a Nokia. I'm torn, however, between the E62 and the 9300. Here's my take, and what I'll be using this particular phone for. If you've had one or the other (or better yet, both) please chime in:

1. I'll be popping my Gmail onto it. (after forwarding my work email)
2. GooSync
3. Probably some sort of GPS Nav (I have it on my N73 but this is going to be my work phone)
4. Probably be editing documents, mostly Excel and Powerpoint.
5. Salling Clicker
6. Smartmovie

Quite honestly, that's about it.

I like the E62 for the s60v3, size, and screen.

I like the 9300 for the curiosity/"wow" factor, interior screen, and fact that it's got the ease of a num-pad with the convenience of a QWERTY.

If I could find someone to swap my blackjack for an E70, I'd be in heaven, but I don't see that happening (plus I can get both the E62 and 9300 for way cheaper than I got the Blackjack for). What do you suggest?

I'm assuming your getting it under contract so that explains the cheap deal so that eliminates the E61 as Angel said. If it wsa the E61 in the mix I would go for it but since it isnt i might be inclined to get the 9300. If web browsing isnt a need then the 9300 is a good option with the killer qwerty. I've owned an E61 and loved the keyboard but nothing compared to the 9300s. Great screen for viewing emails and drafting and editing powerpoint and excel files were smooth sailing on it. I hate to suggest anything other than a S60 but it is a Nokia . I had smartmovie on mine as well and viewing movies were great but the E61/62 is just as good so that's a toss up. The number one reason is the phone portion of the 9300...much easier to dial while driving with a full size dialing keypad and much more comfortable to hold while talking rather than the poptart E62.

......and the wow factor didnt wear off for me either. I was a big fan of the 9290 and had it for years and this phone builds upon that....one other thing though...dont expect a full s40 on the phone portion...it's pretty limited as to what you can do and it's not nearly as quick as the 6230/8801 UI.

the 9300 is an awesome phone, but for me the e62 is a better fit. also vibrate alert and backlit keyboard is nice. there also seems to be a lot more software for s60 than s80

You've pretty much got me canned on that. With my corporate discount I get a pretty good deal. I'll probably do some light browsing, but not near what I'll do on my N73. Probably have an unlimited internet plan but work pays for it is the only reason. Moreso I'm interested in being able to work on powerpoint/excel without firing up the lappy. I've always been a big fan of the option of a numpad with the QWERTY, also.

I'm very much considering the E70 now, too. :-\

i say the 9300 its an awesome phone. love the way the screen looks and keypad. the e61 not that big on the joystick. but nice overall

i just noticed your talking about the e62 nevermind

I dont think it's a bad choice on either 3....just which fits your needs the most I guess. Great screen on the E70 and an okay camera to boot. (but with an n73 in your arsenal it would probably make you )

Virtually the same phone....forgot to mention that although I hate joysticks I felt like it was more usable than the N73's as well. Doesnt feel as good but my thumb always slipped on my N73 and it grew to be annoying which is why I moved down/up/over with an N80ie!

I actually think that the e6x keyboard is way easier to use day to day then the 9300. Yeah, it has the numeric row, but it also has keys that have very little definition between them, so it's easy to miskey.

I would actually say the e62. I loved my 9300, but the processor on it was so slow that it was a hassle with the multitasking. The S60 v3 has more upside as well (and you can find the programs a lot easier that S80).

Also, as you are choosing between the 9300 and e62 I figure you are on Cingular which means you should find an e70-2 which, I hear, are a tough find.

definately an e62 unless you can get a 9300 significantly cheaper.

I think here's what I've decided:

I tentatively sold the Blackjack for the same price I can get a E70-2 for (from Buy.com, thanks MobileZen). The buyer said he'd let me know for sure in the next couple of days.

I can buy a E62 for cheaper through Cingular, so I'm going to sell the BlackJack, see how much my paycheck is for (tomorrow) and then either buy the E70 or get an E62. The 9300 is tempting, but I played with it some more at the NEC in the Galleria and It's just freakin huge.

I think I'd be most happy with the E70, though, honestly. I've always been a huge fan of that form factor. Thanks for the responses, guys!

I have an E61, E70-2, and 9300. My SIM is in my E70-2.

The downside of the E70 is really that the screen is physically smaller than the E61 and, of course, the 9300. More pixels than the E61, but physically smaller. So it means some fonts that are easy to read on the E61 are somewhat more difficult to read on the E70.

I mostly notice this when using putty (ssh client).

Of course, there is also the memory issue in landscape mode. I don't actually get hit by it very often, but certainly if you want to run other applications while running the Nokia web browser, the phone will be starving for memory. Opera mobile seems less memory hungry - it is probably worth spending the money to have both browsers.

All that said, the E70 is one of the best phones I've owned.

The 9300 just doesn't have the CPU horsepower to really run the Opera web browser, so for web browsing the time to load a page becomes dominated by the time to render in Opera. However, it has a great keyboard and screen. Very nice for email and putty. The 9500 had the same CPU horsepower issue with Opera - even over WiFi web browsing was painfully slow.

The E61 is a compromise. A pretty good one really. Adequate keyboard. Adequate screen. GSM 850/900/1800/1900/UMTS 2100 gives potential coverage almost everywhere enough people live. WiFi. Excellent battery life because it has the nice huge battery of the 9500.

I've had blackberry connect working on all three of these. It works. S60v3 vs S80 in terms of software availability seems like a toss up right now, but I expect that the S60v3 platform has a better future.

Of course, of the three, the E70 is the only one of the three with a camera. It is definitely a cell phone quality camera, but in bright light it will take a picture that isn't too bad. The kind of thing that will be useful to some, but a problem for others. I personally like having the camera as I never encounter environments that prohibit such things, but it isn't a must-have.
