9242 Rent vs Buy

That was my initial question about renting. Since the rental contracts are only 1 yr but I would prob sign on with a 2 year programming contract - what do you do after the 1 year.

If I wanted to buy a receiver, I doubt that I would get as good of a deal as a new customer. I couldn't threaten to cancel my account because I would still be locked into 1 year of programming.

I wanted to know if anyone had got deals after the 1st year of renting.

This new flyer doesn't seem to indicate "new customers only". I'd really like to know if any existing customers are able to get a good deal right now.

can anyone confirm that if you purchase the 9242 and are already exisiting customer if you get the $300 credit towards your bill ?

I just phoned and the $199 deal is only good for NEW sign-ups.
Existing customers only get a $100 rebate.
too bad because I was looking fwd to the 50% discount on the NFL package as well.
Good time to signup for newbs.
I'm not gonna buy cause the breakeven point of $500 vs $20/mth is 2 yrs. who know what'll happen in that time.

If you sign as a new client you have to sign a 2 years contract to get the promotion as well as the free install. It would either be a 2 years rental term (meanning if you return your receiver before then you will have a penalty) or a 2 years purchase term

When we refered previously to a one year contract it was in the case the 1 year free rental was offered as a RENTION OFFER, to keep a client from going to the competition

If you threathen to disconnect after one year you won't get any deal on receivers since you are already bound by contract to rent for 2 years. All clients signing in to EV sign a contract to either rent a receiver for 2 years, or for programming for 2 years. They could also sign only a 1 year term, but in that case they don't get the free install or discounts on programming like a 2 years term would

You would certainly get a certain discount, maybe a month or 2 free, but not the very generous retention offer discussedby certain members here. Retention offer will be different for one client to another. Retention agent will have a certain amount they could offer you depending on how long you've been with the compagny, how many retention offer you had since you've been with them, payment history

I'm a current custumer who's rental term of 3 x 4100's receivers expired in july

I have 2 hdtv capable televisions now (sony 42 inch in family room ) and a (26 inch samsung in the main bedroom) so I'm ready to upgrade

I just cant bring myself to pay 499 (current promo) or pay 40 + a month for 2 receivers when I'm only paying 9 bucks for 3 standard receivers as it is

its annoying that new custumers can get the receivers for half price while current custumers that want to upgrade can only get 100 bucks off

I guess I'll wait for a promo that blows me away

What I had done was called Bell Canada and told them I would be cancelling my telephone service as its cheaper with another provider by $X.

They said, they couldnt discount the telephone service, but they were willing to discount my expressvu to compensate. So I had 25% off my Expressvu during the 2nd year of my 2 year contract

":D"

When I called to activate my 9242, I was assured no less than three times that I would get the $300 credit; two months later, of course, nothing has shown up. Time for a call to berate some poor hapless CSR...

Apparently you are correct and Bell has no desire to keep its existing customers. I just got off the phone and got nothing more than the usual $100 off the purchase of a new HD PVR. They didn't care that I have been a loyal paying customer for 16 years. I told them that it was too expensive and that I would have to check out all of my options. All I got was a nice "Thank you for calling Bell."

I have also found out that I would need a dish upgrade and at least one more line pulled through the house. Although there would be no cost, it might be almost impossible and would be quite disruptive and possibly damaging.

I am not a Rogers fan in any way at all, but I'm going to check out their offers for HD.

I belive he refers to a RETENTION OFFER, no a current promo...

I checked at many stores (Bell store, Best Buy, The Brick) and they told me there is NO DEAL FOR EXISTING CLIENTS FOR THE PURCHASE OF A 9242 UNIT

Front line CSR NEVER MAKE OFFERS like those... Only the RETENTION departement could offer free rental period, or credits on programming for a certain period

There is always a 1 year contract with rental, whether it's a regular rental or a retention offer. They offer you one free year rental, it's free anyways, I don't see why you would cancel it

This comes up again and again...When you were a new customer you got some type of deal...BEV is giving you $100 off a PVR if you want it, if you want a new customer deal, quit them for 6 months and you can get it. To get better, see what their retention department will give you, but be prepared to quit!

hi

to LZS: where do you saw this promotion: 1 year free rental??

I've look the bell.ca site and they say : 2 month renting free.

Are you in Quebec province?

thanks

Actually if you go to the BEV website it clearly says $100 off a new HD PVR for existing clients...it's definitely not as good as $300 off a $499 9242 bought elsewhere which I just signed up for, but they do offer something at least.

That is true that to get the new customer promotion AND free install you need to sign a 2 year contract as a new customer....however, you get the exact same promotion signing a 1 year contract right now, you just need to pay for the install (or complain that you can't do it yourself anymore and get a credit :-D).

I just signed up with a 1 year contract and will be getting $300 credit back after buying the HD PVR for $500.

thanks kingston .I think thats what I'll do

we're actually finally getting a future shop up here in timmins --should be open in a month or so

Hey infovip!

I am in Alberta. I just bought a new Sony tv from the Sony Store and they gave me a starter kit. He said that it was good for 1 year free hd pvr rental.

The lady that I talked to at ExpressVu on the phone confirmed the deal and told me that in her opinion, it is better to rent because there is always deals for rentals. Maybe they are able to offer more rental deals than on programming? Not too sure, still trying to make up my mind!!

I am an existing SD customer and I just bought the 9242 PVR for the $100 rebate offer from FS. It didn't come with the dish upgrade kit included. How do I get the hardware without having it "professionally" installed? Will they ship it or will it require a tech to drop it off?

That's not what I see on Bell's web site... I see that they offer 2 months of the programming package of your choice free (including receiver cost)

It is usually not the case, but for that promo according to Bell's site 1 year new clients coudl get it
