9242 Rent vs Buy

I am currently getting a year free rent on a 9242 and would buy it for $300 if that offer became available.

Just in case this was missed.. BEV will give you a 1 year free rental of the new pvr if you threaten to leave after your contract. i got a offer for 1 year free rental and 50% off my programming.

I'm thinking long and hard about it, believe me. And everything I've read here leads me to believe that Bell's HD kicks Shaws behind. May be buying a new panny plasma this weekend too so the 9242 would be the icing on the cake.

Decisions, decisions.......

Does anybody know for sure that you can get the $300 credit even if you buy the HD PVR from a different store, like a big block store?

If so, I will definitely be signing up for BEV with the HD PVR very soon.

The 9242 is listed in the Future Shop flyer ( 2 week flyer good until July 10th ) -
$599 - $100 instant savings, then you get a $300 Bell bill credit - so it works out to be $199 when all the dust settles!

Looks to be a super deal!! Bell said they will price match the deal.

That is why I am having a hard time with the decision - I doubt I will be able to find it this cheap after 1 year....just worried from some of the issues people have been having with the unit.

I see some being offered from 75$ to as low as 25$ on the internet.

I personnaly doubt someone will pay 75$, but you can always try

You can place an add to sell it on Kijiji, it's free. I sold lots of items that way

I am assuming that we can ( new activation ). The Brick also has the same deal $499 for 9242 receiver and $300 Bell credit until July 24th.

I have spoking with reps in the Bell store and they said they would match the deal as i don't like shopping at the Brick!

I have finally decided to buy instead of rent and will do so next week!! :D

I just got the new flyer as well. What are the chances of getting the 9242 at 199 for an existing customer?

And what is the point as after that year you are paying $20 mth....hardly any deal if you ask me. Look at it this way, renals are made to make a company money, not save you any. All you save is up front costs...buy if you can!

Hi, I currently sub to bell and have a 6100 but I am interested in upgrading to a 9242. Does anyone know of any deals for existing subs to buy the 9242 or do I have to pay the $599?

Thanks

LOL sorry bout that - trying to do quick posts while at work without the boss looking!! ;)

I meant to write $488 - $300 = $188!! :D

A 240$ savings maybe!!!

After that year he could also decide to no longer rent and buy one. Even if decide to keep on renting it's still a deal, he saved 240$!!!, a year of rental cost

That's a great deal for new activations. For existing customers, 1 yr free rental or $300 credit on a $599 purchase and free installation are available (9242.) The 1 yr free rental and install are pretty easy to get, especially if you rent/own an SD receiver. The $300 credit may be offered if you prefer to buy. If you can't get a deal from a front line CSR (cite competing offers), retentions will likely make a better deal after you terminate service. There are no contracts with these offers. I would buy since 12 months rental equals only $240 credit and then you are paying rental fees again. If you decide to switch providers, the 6242 will have some resale value so you are breaking even after only 18-24 months.

Yes, it is for new clients - and I am currently with Shaw, so would be a new Bell customer.

I believe they just started to offer $100 off for current subs. Details are on the new Bell site.
