STEP 3:Enjoy!

What is the advantage to using Remote #2 with Tuner #1.?

I thought that the 9242, output BOTH Tuners, via RF (coax) to the remote (2nd) TV.?

I must be missing something? Am I.?

In single mode, all outputs are the same and both remotes operate tuner 1, the current tuner. (Swap can be used to switch tuners but the active/foreground tuner is always seen as tuner 1.)

In dual mode, remote 1 operates tuner 1 which is seen on output 1. Remote 2 operates tuner 2 which is seen on output 2. Tuners cannot be swapped. In dual mode, remote 2 can be used to operate tuner 1 (as described above) but control of tuner 2 is lost unless a second remote 2 is available.

The advantage of using remote 2 to control tuner 1 is being able to connect one of the HDTV outputs to a TV in another room and then control tuner 1 using RF. That can be accomplished by switching to single mode as well as reversing the tab.

So you can utilize the uhf capabilities of the 2nd tuner remote. Some people have all of their components "hidden" in a closet or cabinet

So getting another Remote #2, setting it up to control Tuner 1 as well as Remote #1 would give you the best of both worlds.?

Having 2 x Remote #2's, one working Tuner #1 and one working Tuner #2.

Would that work.?

I believe the tuner can only do infared or uhf one at a time (ie you can't use both remotes without reconfiguring them each time)

None... Perhaps his TV1 remote is broken and the TUNER 1 (TV1) his the main TV so he wants it programmed that way until he get a replacement

At the receiver end, tuner 1 has IR and UHF active all the time. AFAIK, tuner 2 can only be controlled by UHF.
At the remote, older Dish receivers can be controlled by programming AUX to send IR. IIRC, this behaviour may be modified on some remotes by a switch in the battery compartment. The UHF is only active for SAT and cannot be reprogrammed to control older receivers.

Exactly what Robert said above and I am pretty sure the tab if you flip it over will NOT be a TV1 UHF key.

Here is the thread which started it all awhile back. I am pretty sure the 9242 doesn't have TV1 UHF keys. If it does.........then just flip the key go to info screen press and hold sat key. press 0X, then rec. You now have a IR/UHF remote 1.

I flipped the tab on the 9200 remote 2 and it controlled tuner 1. Haven't tried it with the 9242 but the remotes are almost identical in other respects.
