The last thing I have not done, and I mean last thing but does not show up on any of my trouble codes is the catylic converter. It does sound pretty rough under there and is a bit of exhaust coming out of the connecting piece to the actual muffler part and out the muffler itself. Is there a way to test this? Should I disconnect it and start it up for a minute and see if the motor stops shaking and responds better to the throttle?

old car...
Did you run a scan?
because the TPS (throttle position sensor) could be bad
the MAF (Mass airflow sensor) could be bad
the ECT (Electronic coolent temp. sensor) could be bad
the AAT (Ambient Air Temp. Sensor) could be bad
the O2 (Oxygen Sensor) could be bad
the IAC (Idle air control motor) could be bad
The choke Valve could be either shut closed or the motor couldn't be opening it or the vacuum hose couldn't be opening it (depending on which one you have, Vacuum or mechanicle)

The scanner would pick all of this up

All though OBD1 is pretty useless...
